Planning an EV road trip? Here are my top recommendations for an easy journey.
– Make sure you have both your UMC adapter and a Type 2 to Type 2 adapter so you have as many options as possible. Not all chargers will have their own cable. If you get stuck in a remote area, your UMC cable will mean you can charge up using any accessible 3 pin power outlet
– Plan ahead using Plugshare, Chargefox and Google Maps. When planning your route on Google maps you can toggle on ev chargers. This is not always the most up to date which is why I recommend to also check out Plugshare and Chargefox.
– When close to your next chargepoint you can check on Chargefox if the charger is in use, which may help you decide whether to go to the next one
– Check the operator of the chargers along your route and make sure you have the right apps downloaded or order your Evie card ahead
– Weather conditions and driving style will impact your range. If its windy, very hot or you are driving uphill make sure you factor in that it may take an additional 10% of range. If you are running out of range fast and worried you might not make it, try slowing down and turning off the air con to preserve battery
